Based in Leeds, West Yorkshire we are the oldest established Children's Theatre group in the UK.
As a society we are dedicated to the principle of quality and affordable children's entertainment. We believe it's very important to encourage and provide an opportunity for all children to experience the feelings and emotions brought about from being involved in live theatre, as performers or members of an audience. Our members (not just children, adults too) have a great time bringing live theatre to many young people for the very first time. Many of the plays we produce are based on well known children's literature, and it's magical to see them off the page and onto the stage.
Leeds Children's Theatre is managed and staffed by a team of dedicated volunteer members who offer their vast range of experience to our younger members, covering most aspects of theatrical production, performance and stagecraft.

The society not only produces stage plays, it also offers many of our younger members the opportunity to participate in drama workshops. We facilitate regular weekly workshops designed for our younger members aged 8+, and also a monthly drama workshop for members aged 13+.
All our activities are currently based at the Carriageworks Theatre, a modern city centre venue and community theatre that's positioned right on Millennium Square, opposite the Civic Hall. We've been here since the theatre opened in November 2005, when we were relocated from the former Leeds Civic Theatre (located on Cookridge Street, the building is now the Leeds City Museum).
We believe that we are the oldest established Children's Theatre group in the UK, as we were founded way back in 1935. If you're interested in reading more about our early beginnings take a look at the piece written by one of our founding members, Mrs Elsie Brown, a few years ago. Or visit our production archives where you'll find production information and photographs sorted by year. We also have a copy of an article written by Judith Unwin about LCT that was published in NODA Today (2008).
