Emil and the Detectives
May 16-19, 26-30 1952
at the Civic Theatre, Leeds


Based on the classic novel by Erich Kastner, adapted by Cyrus Brooks. 
Emil Blake is taking his hardworking mum’s savings from their Kentish village to his Grandmother in London. On the train he is cunningly robbed by the sinister ‘Man in the Bowler Hat’ – but brave Emil seeks justice with the help of a resourceful gang of boys led by The Professor and joined by his cousin Polly.

"The aim of Leeds Children's Theatre is to produce plays suitable for children,
​the players to be either children or adults or both, as is necessary for the production"

This was drawn into the constitution in April 1937 and it remains the aim of Leeds Children's Theatre today ​
