The Key of the Kingdom
1936

" The years 1936 and 1937 saw the production of two plays by the Yorkshire playwright and artist the late Albert Wainwright. They were the Key of the Kingdom, and Peter Starlight. Acted by mixed cast of children and adults, a policy which has always been adhered to by the Leeds children's theatre, they were notable for the beautiful craftsmanship of the scenery, costumes and properties."
(Elsie Brown, 1995)
World famous artist Albert Wainwright, a friend and contemporary of Henry Moore, created many set and costume designs for this production of The Key of the Kingdom. Many of these 1930s designs are available to researchers via the Wolfsonian Museum in Florida.  The Hepworth Wakefield also holds works by Wainwright (they held an exhibition IN FOCUS: ALBERT WAINWRIGHT in 2014
