About L.C.T.
As a society we are dedicated to the principle of quality and affordable children's entertainment. We believe it's very important to encourage and provide an opportunity for all children to experience the feelings and emotions brought about from being involved in live theatre, as performers or members of an audience.
The society is managed and staffed by a team of dedicated volunteer members who offer their vast range of experience to our younger members, covering most aspects of theatrical production, performance and stagecraft.
All our activities are currently based at the Carriageworks Theatre, a modern city centre venue and community theatre that's positioned right on Millennium Square, opposite the Civic Hall. We've been here since the theatre opened in November 2005, when we were relocated from the former Leeds Civic Theatre.
We believe that we are the oldest established Children's Theatre group in the UK, as we were founded way back in 1935. If you're interested in reading more about our early beginnings take a look at the piece written by one of our founding members, Mrs Elsie Brown, a few years ago. Or visit our production archives where you'll find production information and photographs sorted by year. We also have a copy of an article written by Judith Unwin about LCT that was published in NODA Today (2008).

Membership
Leeds Children's Theatre membership is open to people actively interested in theatre. Adult membership is subject to committee approval, references and regular DBS checks which are currently carried out on our behalf by NODA.
Please note that the current minimum age for taking part in LCT activities and productions is eight (8) years of age. We do have a long waiting list for children wishing to join in order to attend our Saturday drama workshop, and the list is open to children aged 7 years and over. All enquiries should be addressed to our membership secretary.

Committee
The Leeds Children's Theatre committee is democratically elected and includes youth/junior representatives as well as the usual officers and officials. We hold an AGM each year, usually in September, to elect the General Committee and Honorary Officers, who work together to manage the day to day business and activities of the society.
Finances
Our finances
The society is completely self-funding and as such receives no grant aid, locally or nationally. We are financed through membership subscriptions, ticket sales and the occasional fund-raising event. We have in the past also receive donations from individuals to help with specific projects or productions, and are very grateful to our benefactors for their support. LCT has never been a registered charity, and is managed by our annually elected committee rather than trustees.
Charitable donations
As a not-for-profit group we donate money to local charities whenever possible, many of which are associated with members and their families. Please note that we are not however in a position to accept unsolicited requests for donations or sponsorship.
