Leeds Children's Theatre Archive Group
Celebrating the history of Leeds Children's Theatre

The Leeds Children's Theatre Commanet archive went live on 18 November 2002.

Leeds Children's Theatre Archive Group was formed in May 2000 with the specific purpose of creating an archive of images and other resources, for publication. In 2000 the group made a successful bid for a lottery grant to enable them to purchase the equipment that would be needed in order to capture and record the history of the community that is Leeds Children's Theatre, from the Society's origins in 1935 through to the year 2000 and onwards into the future. We need to borrow memorabilia from members, past members, friends and family in order to make the archive as complete as possible. We are also wanting to interview past members about the history of Leeds Children's Theatre, and their experiences with the Society.
If you are able to help us, or know someone who was a member of Leeds Children's Theatre we'd be delighted if you can find a moment to get in touch.

You can checkout the online archive by looking us up at http://www.commanet.org/

Background
The Leeds Children's Theatre Archive Group was formed in 2000, as we wanted to celebrate our 65th anniversary by creating an electronic archive recording our rich history. Leeds Children’s Theatre Archive Group was formed by members of Leeds Children’s Theatre, a society which has a very long history of hard working, dedicated volunteers. It is this experience and commitment that we will be applying to the Leeds Children’s Theatre Archive Group. All members of Leeds Children’s Theatre are automatically members of LCTAG.
The society, Leeds Children’s Theatre, is and has always been a not-for-profit group. All it’s members are volunteers, and the membership reflects a wide cross-section of the local population here in Leeds. Many families are active members; promoting the truly family friendly activity of working to produce shows for a young audience.
The archive that is being created will allow this community to record its vast and colourful history, helping to promote the benefits of introducing children and young people to the theatrical experience, whether as an active member of a society or as a member of the theatre going public.

Funding

LCTAG successfully applied for a lottery award through the 'Awards for All' scheme, which enabled us to purchase all the equipment needed.

There are various stages to this project.
1. After forming Leeds Children’s Theatre Archive Group we had to secure funding to purchase the equipment and software needed.
2. Secondly we have been entering all the photographs and documents. This is an ongoing part of the project.
3. The final stage is the publication of the archive, on the internet, CD and in print. [We hope to have annual updates].

Comma

This is the software we are using to actually create our community archive. We can add a range of elements.
· Scanned photographs, documents, objects.
· Written descriptions and notes
· Sound files such as reminiscences and interviews
· Short video files can also be included
The archive is searchable, so it is possible to type in a date, name or category and find the details you want to view, watch or listen to.
All the material included in the archive must have copyright clearance, and all contributors are asked to fill in a clearance form. Y
ou can checkout the archive online www.commanet.org
